National Singles Week Aims to Gain Respect for Singles

"Singles are the Rodney Dangerfields of our society," says Rich Gosse, Chairman of American Singles Education, Inc. "They can't get no respect. That's why we are proud to be the official sponsor of National Singles Week, September 20-26, 2009."

SAN RAFAEL, CA, August 07, 2009 /Dating - Singles PR News/ -- "Singles are the Rodney Dangerfields of our society," says Rich Gosse, Chairman of American Singles Education, Inc. "They can't get no respect. Singles are the victims of systematic discrimination, particularly in the areas of Taxes, Insurance, Retirement Benefits, Employee Benefits, Housing, and Unemployment Benefits.

"That's why we are proud to be the official sponsor of National Singles Week, September 20-26, 2009, the only week dedicated to the recognition of the special contributions of all singles. The first National Singles Week was in 1982. The week has been declared by official proclamation of Governors throughout America, and is listed in Chase's Calendar of Events, a directory of such events for the country.

"Latest statistics reveal that there are 84 million single adults in America (43 million women and 41 million men)," says Mr. Gosse. "In its year 2000 figures, the U.S. Census Bureau reports that today 26% of households are a single person living alone, compared to just 13% in 1960. Single person households now outnumber so-called "traditional" households of a married couple with children at home, which now make up just 23.5% of households. Today for every married couple in the U.S. there are 1.5 singles.

"The average age of first marriage today is comparable to what it was at the start of the 1900s, at 25 for women and 27 for men, compared to 20 and 23 in 1960," says Mr. Gosse. "While married couples (with or without children) headed 55% of households in 1990, the ratio dropped to 52% by 2000. Today single adults in various living arrangements make up about 48% of U.S. households. The number of households headed by a single mom has increased, but so have the households headed by a single dad (7.5 million single moms, and 2 million single dads), a significant jump for both, but especially for single dads. Today 10% of U.S. households are headed by a single parent."

Rich Gosse is America's foremost authority on the single lifestyle. He is the author of eight books on this subject, including Singles Guide to America, You CAN Hurry Love, and A Good Man Is EASY to Find ("This is a great book!" - Oprah Winfrey). His expert advice has been featured by ABC, BBC, CBS, CNBC, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Cosmopolitan, Playboy, Playgirl, Business Week, The London Times, The Australian, The New Zealand Herald, and hundreds of other media outlets worldwide. Rich Gosse is the first candidate in history to campaign on a "Fairness for Singles Platform," when he ran for Governor in California's historic Recall Election in 2003.
